Kmart is a chain of US discount stores that has stores in 49 states, Guam, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands. The company was founded in 1962. The chain purchased Sears in 2005, forming a new corporation under the name Sears Holdings Corporation. Currently the subsidiaries of Sears Holdings Corporation are: Kmart, Big Kmart, Kmart Super Center, KDollar, K-Cafe, and Kwash. Earlier in it existence, Kmart expanded into Canada, Europe, Mexico and Australia. It now has divested its interests in those locations, and while Kmart stores still exist in some of those regions of the world, It is by name only and there are no relations to the American stores.
