Costco Canada is the #1 warehouse club of Canada, operating stores in nine provinces. The chain originated in 1985 when Sam Steinberg, a Canadian grocery store owner, and Sol Price each contributed $5 million to start Price Club Canada, Inc. Mr. Price had successfully started Price Club in the United States previously in an airplane hanger originally owned by Howard Hughes on Morena Boulevard in San Diego, CA. In 1993, the Price Club entities merged with Costco and eventually all of the Price Club locations were converted to Costco. Costco was founded in 1983 in Kirkland, WA - where it derives it brand of store branded merchandise "Kirkland". Now headquartered in Issaquah, WA, today Costco has locations in the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada (separate entry in this database), Mexico, Taiwan, South Korea, and Japan as well as in the United States. Costco was the first company to grow from zero to $3 billion in sales in less than six years.
