Boston Store is a department store chain located only in Wisconsin and founded in 1897. The store chain was sold to Federated Department Stores in 1948 which coincided with the chain's expansion across Wisconsin. In 1985 ownership based to the Bergner's chain of stores located in Illinois, but remained operating under the Boston Store banner. It was at this time that the Boston Store headquarters were moved to Milwaukee, WI. In 1991 Boston Store, under Bergner's, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and emerged from bankruptcy in 1993 as Carson Pirie Scott & Co. In 1998 Saks Incorporated bought Carson Pirie Scott. Through all of this, Boston Store kept operating under its own name. Finally, in 2006 Saks sold Boston Store, as well as its other Northern Department Store Group, to The Bon-Ton Stores, Inc for $1.1 billion. Today Boston Store continues to maintain its own name, but operates as a subsidiary of The Bon-Ton Stores, Inc.
