Bass Pro Shops and Outdoor World is a leading retailer in hunting, fishing, camping and related outdoor merchandise. It was established in 1971 by Johnny Morris as a bait and tackle shop in the back of his father's liquor store.  Catering to the many fisherman coming through Springfield, MO on the way to the Ozark's famous bass lakes; Johnny began getting request from fishermen for his bait and tackle after they had returned home.  In response to the request Bass Pro Shops started its catalog mailers in 1974.   Today the largest format of these stores operate under the name of Outdoor World - the largest being the 300,000 SF Springfield, MO store.  Most Outdoor World locations are between 130-150,000 SF in size.  The "smaller" stores (between 50-100,000 SF) continue to operated under the Bass Pro Shops banner.   Shopping at one of the Bass Pro Shops or Outdoor World locations has been developed into an "experience" with the addition of Islamorada Fish Company restaurants, Uncle Buck's Fishbowl and Grill - a bowling alley and bar, and boat showrooms to highlight the Tracker Marine Group line of fully ready fishing boat, motor and trailer packages.
